She was raised in London to actor Will Knightley and Sharman Macdonald, Knightley obtained an agent at age six and initially was involved in television commercials as well as films. In 1999, she played Sabe as Sabe in Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace. She also played a socialite named Georgiana in The Duchess. The actress also appeared in contemporary dramas, appearing as an aspiring singer In Begin Again (2013) and a physician for Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (2014). Knightley was back in historical dramas, playing Joan Clarke, in The Imitation Game and resulted in an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
